Canadian Environmental Choice Program: Computers EcoLogo Certification
By GreenerComputing Staff
September 12, 2007
Environment Canada's Environmental Choice Program (ECP) certifies and recognizes products and services that are environmentally preferable and develops and promotes higher standards of environmental performance against which new products can be assessed. The certification can help consumer and corporate buyers find the most sustainable products.
This document contains the environmental and performance requirements for ECP-certified notebooks and desktops and is a good resource for anyone interested in learning more about green standards for computers. ECP-recognized products meet requirements for reduced use of hazardous substances, design for re-use and recycling, energy efficiency, reduced packaging and ergonomic considerations.
Peripheral equipment including monitors and keyboards are also covered by this document. Printers, scanners and speakers are not included. A helpful glossary explains technologies and materials.
