Job Description

Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper seeks a self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic to develop and implement water policy programs that support the organization’s mission. At a minimum, these programs will include work on Georgia’s new state water plan, intrastate and interstate water allocation, regional water management, instream flow protection and water efficiency. Candidates should have a strong commitment to the environment, particularly river conservation, and have proven communications skills (writing and public speaking), the ability to thoroughly understand and communicate technical and scientific issues to the general public, and the ability to work well with minimal supervision.

UCR’s Policy Director must be able to think quickly, make decisions, and function independently when necessary, while working in close cooperation with the organization’s Executive Director, General Counsel and partner organizations at other times. The Policy Director must also be able to coordinate a variety of tasks simultaneously and follow through to achieve measurable results. Some travel may be required.

Required Qualifications

A masters level degree and/or 4-5 years of experience in water policy work is required. Salary is commensurate with experience.

UCR is a nonprofit environmental advocacy organization whose mission is to advocate and secure the protection and stewardship of the Chattahoochee River, its tributaries and watershed, in order to restore and preserve their ecological health for the people, fish and wildlife that depend on the River system. UCR was established in 1994 and uses advocacy, education, research, communication, cooperation, monitoring and legal actions to protect and preserve the Chattahoochee.
