Organization Description

Background: Located in the historic Reading Terminal Market, the Fair Food Farmstand carries a variety of fresh produce, meats, poultry, dairy, eggs and cheese from organic and sustainable farms throughout the southeast Pennsylvania region. We emphasize local and seasonal foods and products from small-scale producers such as humanely raised meats, organic and specialty fruits and vegetables, and raw milk cheeses. Currently open Tuesday through Sunday and primarily staffed by volunteers, the goals of The Farmstand are to educate consumers about the benefits of buying local; provide them with a point of access to sustainably raised food; and provide training and real-life experience for farmers selling direct wholesale.

The mission of White Dog Community Enterprises, a 501(c)3 non-profit, is to cultivate a Philadelphia regional economy that is inclusive, just, environmentally healthy, and based on local business ownership. We help create, strengthen, and connect locally owned businesses and farms that meet essential human needs in our region; support minority entrepreneurs in this new economy; and educate the public about the benefits and responsibilities of building a local living economy. Unlike many non-profits, we use the marketplace as a vehicle for social change.
